This week, at its annual Meta Connect 2026 event, Meta previewed the future of its virtual reality hardware and software. A significant reveal was the upcoming Meta VR Glasses, scheduled for launch in Spring 2027. Meta Blog (www.meta.com) describes this as the company's "most advanced VR device yet," promising a comfortable glasses form factor that functions as a "cinema, workspace, and console in one."

The Meta VR Glasses will emphasize hand-tracking technology, removing the need for traditional controllers in many experiences. While new titles are specifically designed for this input method, Meta Blog (www.meta.com) notes that all existing Quest games will be compatible, albeit requiring Touch Plus controllers. Updates and new games are also slated for Meta Quest 3 and 3S.

Among the key game announcements is *Beat Saber: Flux*, touted as the "biggest update ever" for the popular rhythm game. Arriving in Spring 2027, Flux introduces a new play style using hand-tracking to slice notes by channeling energy between palms. It launches with 35 songs and also supports Touch Plus controllers. Meta Blog (www.meta.com) adds that the update includes a revamped campaign, a new progression and rewards system with earnable items, and for the first time, full controller-free gameplay.

Another title, *Dragon Grove*, is a charming puzzle game launching alongside Meta VR Glasses in Spring 2027. Designed from the ground up for hand-tracking, players partner with dragons to solve 3D puzzles and cultivate plants. The game will also be available on Meta Quest 3 and 3S without requiring controllers, allowing users to interact naturally with their virtual dragon companions.

For fans of action, *PAYDAY: Aces High* brings the intense heist series to Meta Quest 3 and 3S. Players can plan heists, infiltrate targets, and escape with loot, either solo or with up to three friends. The game supports cross-play with PCVR. An Open Playtest for *PAYDAY: Aces High* begins October 19, with the full game expected "later this year," according to Meta Blog (www.meta.com).

Our take: Meta's clear focus on hand-tracking and a lighter, more wearable "glasses form factor" for its next-generation VR hardware signals a significant strategic shift. The ambition to make a VR device a true multi-purpose personal computing platform-cinema, workspace, and console-is compelling. However, the ultimate success of these new experiences hinges on the accuracy and responsiveness of controller-free interaction, an area where VR has historically faced challenges. The announced game lineup shows Meta is serious about supporting this new paradigm with flagship titles like *Beat Saber* leading the charge.
