Xreal Slashes Aura Glasses Pricing by Up to $200 on Launch Day
Xreal and Google cut retail prices on the Android XR-powered Aura glasses right out of the gate, issuing automatic refunds to preorder customers.
On October 29, 2026, Xreal rolled out an unexpected day-one price reduction for its Aura smart glasses as commercial availability kicked off in the United States, Canada, and South Korea. Co-developed with Google, the 95-gram augmented reality frames run Android XR with built-in Gemini intelligence and multi-screen workspace capabilities.
Instead of the original $1,279 preorder price, the base configuration with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage now retails for $1,099, marking a clean $180 reduction. The higher-tier 16GB RAM and 512GB storage model received a $200 haircut, falling from $1,499 to $1,299. An Xreal representative confirmed to The Verge that buyers who already paid the higher preorder tags will receive automatic refunds for the difference.
As 01net.com observes, spontaneous price drops at hardware launch are exceedingly rare, suggesting Xreal and Google adjusted pricing proactively to stay competitive against rival spatial eyewear like Meta's $1,299 hardware. Broader international distribution beyond the initial three launch territories is slated to begin next year.
Our take: Day-one price cuts are almost always a defensive maneuver against rival hardware pricing, but Xreal and Google made the right call here. A $1,099 entry barrier makes the 95-gram Android XR glasses a far more tempting proposition for early adopters, and automatically refunding preorder customers avoids poisoning the well with their most loyal community members.
