Tetris Effect: Mixed Realities Heads to Meta VR Glasses and Quest Platforms

The iconic puzzle game gets a mixed reality overhaul, leveraging Meta's latest hardware for hand-tracking and environmental immersion. It is slated for a 2027 release.

Enhance announced Tetris Effect: Mixed Realities on September 23, 2026, bringing the celebrated puzzle game to Meta VR Glasses, Quest 3, and Quest 3S. This new mixed reality iteration leverages Meta's latest hardware, offering hand-controlled gameplay and room-aware experiences. Passthrough cameras will transform real-world environments with dynamic visual and lighting effects, immersing players within their own space.

Developed by Tetsuya Mizuguchi and his teams at Enhance, Resonair, and Monstars, Tetris Effect is a contemporary reimagining of the classic Tetris formula. It integrates traditional block-dropping mechanics with responsive music, vibrant particle effects, and environments that dynamically react to player input.

The original Tetris Effect debuted in 2018 on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR, later arriving on Quest in 2020. According to UploadVR, a multiplayer version, Tetris Effect: Connected, launched on Steam in 2021, with a complimentary update for existing PlayStation VR, Epic Games Store, and Quest editions. A PlayStation 5 and PSVR2 release followed in 2023.

Our take: Bringing Tetris Effect into mixed reality with hand tracking is a smart move. The game's immersive audiovisual design is already a standout, and integrating it directly into a player's physical space could redefine casual MR gaming. This signals a clear intent from developers to exploit the unique capabilities of advanced passthrough systems, moving beyond simple overlays to truly integrate game worlds with reality.

Tetris Effect: Mixed Realities is scheduled for release in 2027.
