Samsung Unveils First AI Glasses, Overhauls Foldable Lineup at London Event
Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked 2026 on July 22 introduced the company's inaugural AI smart glasses, alongside a significant revamp of its foldable smartphone portfolio.
Samsung made its long-awaited entry into the AI smart glasses market on July 22, 2026, launching its first wearable eyewear at the Galaxy Unpacked event in London. This debut was part of a broader showcase that also featured a sweeping overhaul of the company's foldable smartphone lineup, including two distinct Galaxy Z Fold 8 models, and a new agentic AI platform layer.
The London event, held at Old Billingsgate, served as the stage for Samsung to unveil its critical new display technology: Flex Titanium. This innovation directly addresses the long-standing issue of the visible crease in foldable displays, a persistent consumer complaint across all prior generations of Samsung foldables. Tech Times reports that pre-orders for the new devices opened immediately after the keynote, which was livestreamed globally.
Flex Titanium represents the first structural modification to Samsung's foldable display stack. As announced by Samsung's Global Newsroom on July 15, 2026, the technology replaces the traditional polymer film beneath the OLED panel. Tech Times notes that this new design incorporates two titanium-based components: a titanium-alloy film, roughly one-third the thickness of a human hair, and a titanium plate underneath. Samsung states the alloy film offers 20 times greater mechanical stiffness than its predecessor, effectively distributing stress to prevent crease formation.
Our take: Samsung's leap into AI glasses is a critical move, aligning with the industry's shift towards ambient computing. While details on the glasses themselves are still emerging, their launch alongside a foundational display improvement like Flex Titanium signals a serious intent to lead in next-gen form factors. The timing, ahead of Apple's rumored foldable iPhone, also highlights Samsung's aggressive competitive stance in the premium device market.
The choice of London for Unpacked was strategic. It marks Samsung's first major Unpacked event in the United Kingdom since 2012, positioning the company at the geographic center of Europe, a key market for premium foldables. Devin Culbertson, writing for Tech Times, highlights this timing as a direct challenge, placing Samsung eight weeks ahead of Apple's anticipated September 2026 foldable iPhone announcement.
