Apple N50 Smart Glasses Delayed, Targeting Late 2027 Launch

News broke on May 31, 2026, that Apple's highly anticipated smart glasses have reportedly faced another launch delay. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, writing in his Power On newsletter, the device, internally codenamed N50, is now slated for a late 2027 debut. This pushes back Gurman's previous timeline, which predicted a reveal by the end of 2026 with shipments commencing in early 2027.

Such a delay suggests consumers likely won't see the N50 available online or in stores until at least 2028. However, the extended timeline could allow for enhanced features. Gurman indicates Apple is exploring four distinct styles and unique colors for the smart glasses. Furthermore, the N50 is expected to integrate the revamped Siri, powered by Apple Intelligence, which is anticipated to roll out later this year.

This prolonged timeline likely offers a competitive advantage to rivals like Meta, which introduced its second-generation Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses last year. Despite the setbacks, Apple reportedly remains committed to the smart glasses sector. Bloomberg's Gurman suggests the company envisions the N50 as a potential health device, leveraging augmented reality technology to improve vision.

Our take: While delays can refine a product, consistent postponements risk ceding critical market share. Apple faces a challenge: balancing its quest for perfection with the need to compete in an accelerating smart eyewear landscape.
