Overview

The Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 1) AI glasses were announced in September 2023 and officially launched on October 17, 2023. Now discontinued, Meta offered this model in Round, Wayfarer, and Meteor frame styles with polarized, transitioning, blue-light filtering, single, or progressive prescription lens choices.

Under the hood, the device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip and operates without a cable. It features Facebook Assistant, Bluetooth 5.0, and Wi-Fi 802.11ac connectivity. Media capture is handled by a 12 MP camera recording 1184 x 1184 video at 30fps, supported by five microphones and two micro speakers.

The glasses lack a visual display, focusing instead on audio and imaging. Battery life is rated at 4 hours. Following its release, the hardware drew criticism regarding the small size of the recording indicator light.
