Instagram's Smart Glasses Problem Persists, Despite Meta's Vows

Smart glasses have ushered in new forms of content, not all of it positive. On August 17, 2026, a new report highlights that Instagram, specifically, continues to host a wave of "pickup artist" and prank videos. These clips, often captured with Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses, frequently involve filming individuals, predominantly women, without their consent. This ongoing issue surfaces despite Meta's earlier commitment to remove such content.

About a month after Instagram head Adam Mosseri publicly stated the platform would address this problem, Business Insider reports that the situation has seen little improvement. The outlet identified dozens of these "prank" and "pickup artist" videos that appear to violate Instagram's policies. Some of these specific videos were only removed after being flagged to Meta by Business Insider.

Meta states it has removed thousands of similar content pieces and blocked related hashtags like "rizz" and "cold approach." Business Insider also notes that two prominent accounts known for "pickup artist" content were taken down last month. However, these efforts have not eradicated the problem. The same problematic content also appears on TikTok and YouTube, violating policies across multiple platforms.

Our take: This underscores a fundamental challenge for any platform that integrates with discreet recording devices. While Meta has taken steps, the sheer volume and evolving nature of user-generated content make complete moderation an uphill battle. The responsibility ultimately falls on platforms to proactively enforce their terms, but the tools enabling this discreet filming will always tempt those intent on boundary-pushing content.
