Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer and Scriber: Prescription Smart Glasses Are Finally Here

Meta has unveiled two new Ray-Ban Meta models specifically engineered for prescription wearers, marking a pivotal moment for mainstream smart glasses adoption. The Blayzer Optics and Scriber Optics, announced on April 14, are now available at optical retailers across the United States at a starting price of $499.

The significance of this launch cannot be overstated. According to the Vision Council, approximately 75% of American adults rely on some form of vision correction. Until now, these consumers faced an uncomfortable trade-off: clear sight or smart eyewear. Aftermarket prescription lens solutions existed but were unreliable and voided warranties.

The Blayzer Optics features a rectangular frame in Standard and Large sizes, while the Scriber Optics opts for a rounded, curved design. Both sit on Gen 2 hardware, delivering the same 12-megapixel camera, open-ear speakers, and five-microphone array found across the current Ray-Ban Meta lineup. What sets them apart is precision frame engineering — overextension hinges, interchangeable nose pads, and optician-adjustable temple tips make professional fitting possible for the first time.

Meta is simultaneously rolling out software upgrades across the platform. A new nutrition tracking feature lets wearers log meals hands-free via voice or camera, while Neural Handwriting — a feature that converts finger movements on any surface into text — aims to solve the awkwardness of voice dictation in quiet settings. WhatsApp message summaries round out the update.

The distribution strategy is equally noteworthy. By placing these frames in optical shops rather than electronics stores, Meta meets consumers in an environment where $499 is a routine purchase. Premium progressive lenses typically cost $400–$600, making the addition of smart features an incremental sell rather than a discretionary gadget purchase.

Pre-orders are live on Meta.com and Ray-Ban.com. Oakley Meta is also expanding its lineup with new colorways for the Vanguard and HSTN sport styles. If prescription integration proves popular, it could unlock the largest untapped segment of the smart glasses market, as reported by VR.org.
