This week, Meta announced that applications are now open for researchers to receive their second-generation Aria research glasses. While the broader rollout is slated for Q2 2026, this move signifies Meta's continued investment in egocentric AI and spatial computing.

Aria Gen 2 promises significant hardware upgrades. Technical deep-dives highlight improved cameras, enhanced sensors, and more robust on-device compute capabilities. These advancements are crucial for researchers pushing the boundaries of what smart eyewear can achieve in capturing and interpreting human interaction and environmental data.

"Sonata" focuses on self-supervised learning for 3D point representations, a critical area for spatial understanding in AR/XR.
